Voices of East Asian Youth on Education and the Past

DP1_edited.jpg

This year, Diaspora will host a virtual conference centered on the voices of high school students and young people from East Asia, focusing on how they understand, question, and engage with history through education.

The conference explores the idea that history is not fixed or complete, but continuously shaped by those who study, teach, and write it. Participants will examine how historical narratives are formed in classrooms, textbooks, archives, and personal memory, and how these narratives influence identity and society.

Through panel discussions, short talks, and live Q&A sessions, students and young adults will share their perspectives on historical interpretation, storytelling, and the challenges of learning and writing history across academic and creative forms.

Held entirely online, the conference creates an open space for East Asian youth to speak in their own words and learn from one another across borders. Attendance is open to students, educators, writers, and anyone interested in youth perspectives on history and education.
